NetWeaver evolution

SAP NetWeaver is a framework which integrates and extends the ABAP Basis technology with an Application Server which includes also a Java J2EE engine. It also contains several technologies which can support any type of application solutions.

People Integration

People Integration components allow any employee to access information and functions needed to do their tasks in a fast and effective way.

In this context, SAP NetWeaver Portal offers a technology which gives all internal and external users a role-based access to SAP and non-SAP applications, from a single control panel, through a standard and customizable user interface. The Portal also offers groupware functionalities, which are the section called Collaboration.

SAP NetWeaver Mobile is the platform for enterprise mobility and supports SAP solutions for Mobile Business, allowing the access to SAP info from several portable devices (Multi-Channel Access).

Information Integration

This integration layer allows the access to all the enterprise information, both structured (those stored in the SAP database) and unstructured (all the other kind of information).

SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse (SAP NetWeaver BW) manages the collection, preparation, analysis and distribution of mission-critical information. Thanks to SAP BusinessObjects software you can also simplify the use of the information available in SAP NetWeaver BW, allowing business users to access, explore, analyze, format and share information across the whole organization.

Knowledge Management (KM) offers powerful functions for managing, distributing and searching non structured information and external sources.

Master Data Management is a component used to guarantee that master data (suppliers, materials, and so on) are distributed across the whole organization in a standard format, on all the systems running in heterogeneous environments.

Process Integration

Process Integration functions assure the correct behaviour of business processes beyond systems boundaries, in a landscape containing heterogeneus systems.

SAP NetWeaver Process Information (PI, formerly known as XI, Exchange Infrastructure) plays a crucial role, by connecting SAP and non-SAP systems. It uses mainly open standards of the XML and Java world.

Application Platform

SAP NetWeaver Application Server is a solid infrastructure for running business applications, based on effective and stable technologies, like ABAP and Java. The Application Server includes not only the runtime environments for J2EE and ABAP, but also the corresponding development environments, which you can use to develop your own applications.

The application platform integrates open standards, browser-based accesses to applications and web services, which are fundamental tools inside ESA (Enterprise Service Architecture).

Lifecycle Management

SAP NetWeaver Information Lifecycle Management (SAP NetWeaver ILM) supports the whole software lifecycle and allows the settings of the rules to be used to maintain data in the systesms, based on different time slices according to the document type and to its legal requirements.

Composite Application Framework

The Composite Application Framework (CAF) is integrated in SAP NetWeaver e and allows the use of tools, framework, rules and methods to create new applications based on the business processes, which can be used across several functional areas.
