What is SAP NetWeaver
The open platform for applications and integration
SAP NetWeaver is the architecture which forms the technical basis of SAP Business Suite 7.0, but also of SAP partners' solutions and custom applications, developed by customers.
In NetWeaver, SAP adopted a wide approach to integration, offering a technology which makes it possible to integrate systems, processes, technologies and people beyond the company boundaries, requiring a relatively limited effort.
The NetWeaver approach is different from previous strategies adopted by SAP, since it includes not only proprietary technologies (like the ABAP run-time engine, which has been for decades the basis for all applications in R/3 and now in ERP 6.0), but also universal standards (including the Web Services), and the interfaces to connect to technologies adopted by competitor application servers, like IBM WebSphere and Microsoft .NET.
With SAP NetWeaver you can implement a service oriented architecture (Enterprise Service-Oriented Architecture) which merges the advantages of SAP enterprise applications with the flexibility of the Web services, which makes it easier to conform to the most dynamic business models.
